Superior Animal Hospital & Boarding Suites

Specialty Services

We take great pride in providing additional expertise, diagnostics, and treatments to pets in our local area. Unlike the average veterinary facility, we provide laser therapy, dermatology and allergy, testing, and much more.

Dermatology & Allergy Testing

To help assess your pet’s pain and discomfort as quickly as possible, we take diagnostic steps right away. First, we will examine the skin and area of infection. If a visual examination does not provide enough insight, we may recommend diagnostic testing like blood samples, biopsies, skin scrapings, and cultures. These tests will accurately and efficiently be analyzed in our diagnostic laboratory. Additionally, Dr. Amy Haarstad, a Veterinary Dermatologist, visits our hospital once a month to work with our clients as well as assist with more complex cases.

Like humans, pets can have reactions to substances they eat, breathe, and touch. In veterinary medicine, the tricky part is pinpointing what exactly a pet is reacting to, which oftentimes is more than one allergen.

Treatments vary depending what your pet is reacting to. Treatments may involve a change in diet, topical creams, medications, or a combination of treatment methods.

Allergies and dermatological issues can cause a great deal of physical discomfort, and can even begin to effect a pet’s mental state if left untreated. Alert us if you notice any of the following signs in your pet:

  • Excessive scratching
  • Constant licking and biting
  • Scabby, red or flaky skin
  • Lumps or bumps
  • Hot spots
  • Excessive shedding
  • Vomiting or diarrhea

Laser Therapy

Laser therapy is a progressive, non-invasive technique that accelerates healing and pain relief. At Superior Animal Hospital, we commonly use therapeutic laser to relieve pain, inflammation, and swelling associated with soft-tissue injuries, trauma, surgery, and chronic everyday disorders like arthritis.

Here’s how it works: A deep-penetrating light stimulates injured cells and releases endorphins that significantly speeds up the healing process, without causing any pain or harm to your pet. In some cases, only a single session is enough to be effective. More commonly, a series of treatments may be needed.

Our veterinarians are thrilled to offer this therapy that is non-invasive, painless, drug-free and without side effects for decreasing pain and increasing healing rates in our patients. We commonly recommend laser therapy for pets with: arthritis & degenerative joint disease, post-surgical pain, ear infections, neurological conditions, wounds/lacerations/abrasions, gingivitis, cystitis, burns, and lick granulomas.

The effects and benefits of laser therapy are impressive:

  • No anesthesia required
  • Safe and non-invasive

  • No side effects
  • Relieves pain
  • Reduces inflammation
  • Accelerates healing
  • Decreases neurologic pain
